The History of Acen
Acen was first established as a short term project by broadcasters S4C in 1989. Within a year Acen was incorporated as a limited company and had commenced work working with S4C and cutting edge independent TV production companies like Fflic, Hel Straeon and HTV to create on-screen experiences for Welsh learners of all levels.
With the advent of the Internet, Acen began to make services available through the world-wide web.
Acen now offers a huge range of materials - magazines, books, videos, DVDs, CDs and on-line courses - many of which are free.
Acen has never distributed profit. Profits during the early years were covenanted to a trust. Now, operating as Cwmni Acen, itself a registered charity, Acen uses any surplus to reinvest in research and development and to fund Welsh learning experiences for those not in a position to pay.
